Based in Pennsylvania, Benjamin Vo preaches the blues fearlessly with devotion and no apologies. His singing and playing bear his soul, while his songwriting is honest, dark, and vulnerable. Both the purist and the radical - Benjamin leads his band through soulful and organic blues and intense jams that pierce the heart. His latest release and third album, Poor Sam, evokes the lyrical poetic playing of Peter Green, the candid sincerity of Otis Spann, and the adventurous spirit of Lonnie Johnson.
Benjamin Vo Blues Band is emerging strongly on the scene, delighting audiences. I was in the audience when we heard him play his guitar and sing as an opening act for another Blues act. It was about 3 or 4 years ago, and we never forgot how great he and his band were. He reminded us of a youthful Stevie Ray. He deserves the spotlight and to be a headliner, not an opening act, although that is a start!
Yes, he has serious precision with his guitar. He can wail the heck out of it or slow it down to a soft elegance that only someone with talent that comes naturally can truly possess.
Yes, he is young, but don't let that fool you into thinking he is inexperienced. Benjamin has independently produced four of his own albums, all of which are winners.
He has strong anti-commercialization convictions that prevent him from signing up for Spotify and other mainstream music streaming services. His heart is in the right place. The Artists are not paid enough through these services, and we agree with that situation. Unfortunately, that is how many people get their music.
